Word parsing is based on kuromoji-unidic and is slightly (less than 5%) inflated because it treats certain uses of words as different lexemes. Particles, true auxiliary verbs like ます, conjunctions, interjections, and symbols are considered grammatical lexemes.
1k words columns indicate coverage (volume comprehension) of non-name, non-grammatical(1), lemmas (from lexeme events), when knowing the top 1000 such words in that particular script. This stat should only be compared between similarly-long scripts. For example, Hanahira and Hanachirasu are extremely short, so there are fewer unique words, so large numbers of known words approach 100% coverage, even if such a number of words would not give 100% coverage on an easier script.
The BCCWJ columns use the top N words in an external word list rather than the word list for that VN. However, using an external word list means that some lexemes that the VN uses constantly are considered rare, even if they're common, just because they happen to fall outside the top N words in that word list. Also, the BCCWJ frequency list doesn't exclude grammatical lexemes.
The VN 5k column uses a frequency list based on VNs. This column is subject to massive arbitrary change at any time. This 5k measurement excludes grammatical lexemes.
The VN 5k "sans 50" column is the same, except it pretends that any uncovered words that are in that script's top 50 most common words were not in the script. Note that this is slightly different from pretending that they're known.
The Core6k column uses a list of every lexeme the analyzer recognizes from Core6k, with a few hundred manual corrections. The massive format difference causes a huge coverage drop, and this number should not be taken very seriously. The "sans" column ignores failures from the top 250 words instead of the top 50 words. Keep in mind that the VN 5k column is literally generated from the data it's ranking, so the Core6k column is going to be worse no matter what.
The Hayashi score is an estimate of structural complexity. The implementation used here handles symbols in a special way to make up for differences between scripts.
Modified Hayashi score adjusts the kanji/hiragana/katakana weights by the relative volume of the three in the text. Modified Hayashi 2 eliminates the katakana element entirely. No attempt has been made to make the modified Hayashi scores have the same values for the upper and lower difficulty levels. Super important warning: adjusting the weight of the three writing systems requires "undoing" and "redoing" some of the calibration that they did when making the metric, and because I don't have their original corpus, this recalibration is fuzzy, and results in the score range being different.
Characters column excludes certain punctuation symbols (『』「」［］（）()【】〈〉《》«»‹›〚〛〘〙｛｝｛｝ ―－～。、…‥\n\r<>). Characters per line doesn't. Lexemes are similar to words. Lexeme count includes all lexemes the analyzer understands, including some names, and counts all instances, not unique ones.
